Artist Statement

Art, like great literature and music nourishes my soul touching me at the deepest level. I am uplifted from my daily existence feeling connected to a greater unchangeable essence. Art points in the direction toward which my soul yearns.

In my painting I express the energy, vitality, joy and harmony, power and poetry of nature and life. I give form to these unseen, yet powerful life forces.

Trees standing tall, firmly rooted in the ground, their outstretched limbs responding to the natural world in a kinetic ballet enduring the elements and seasonal cycles, have been symbols of the vitality and strength of life since my childhood. This force and the sheer, austere beauty manifested in trees inspired me to paint the series "Trees" #1-100.

In my latest series of paintings, "Life", my focus is on the vital forces in our lives and various aspects of existence. I try to capture the essence of life. I translate these into abstract images with acrylic paint on canvas. I paint with brush and use a dripping technique as well. Dripped lines seem to have energy of their own, and for this distinct, living quality I often incorporate dripped lines. The juxtaposition of the painted plane and flowing dripped lines create an organic unity and express pulsating forces of life.
